Windswept Midwinter Editorial with Tara Florence Photography
After all that glorious sunshine over Easter, the grey and moody skies make today feel like the perfect time to share a wonderfully atmospheric shoot with you.
My stationery gets to go to some amazing places and this is one of those occasions. These images were captured by Tara Florence on the bleak and beautifully windswept Northern Irish coast. The location might feel a little familiar as parts of the Dark Hedges Estate were used for filming Game of Thrones. To capture the dark and moody atmosphere the shoot took place just before Christmas. Molly, the model, is clearly an absolute trooper - she must have been frozen!
The brief was to create a stationery suite that would complement the dramatic setting and the rich, wildly autumnal florals. Hydrangeas felt like the perfect choice as an illustration: in full bloom they’re big, blowsy and decadent, yet they’ll withstand the elements, fading to perfect delicate skeletons. I chose a deep, winter-red and bold, modern-calligraphy-inspired script for the whole invitation and as accents for the table stationery. Scripts can be tricky to print when used for text - at smaller sizes the thin lines have a tendency to dry up in between prints, but I felt it was worth a try here and I definitely think it was worth it!
The Hydrangea suite will be up on the website proper soon, though if you’d like to place an order before then, please get in touch with your requirements.
What I love most about Tara’s photography is the way she’s managed to highlight the richness of nature throughout her images - little fireworks of seasonal colour and wonderfully embellished fabrics sit in perfect balance with ancient weathered cliffs.
